The Pentagon announces the closure of the door to supply combat aircrafts to Ukraine

On March 10th, the Pentagon announced that the United States is closing the door to providing Ukraine with Polish combat aircrafts, warning that this would be a very risky step.

Reuters news agency quoted a statement issued by the Pentagon that the assessments of the US intelligence services warned that supplying Ukraine with combat aircraft is a major danger, which Russia could consider an escalatory step.

It is noteworthy that this statement came after a phone call between the US Secretary of Defense and his Polish counterpart, following Poland’s offer to transfer Russian-made combat aircraft to an area under the auspices of the United States to be transferred to Ukraine.

For his part, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed that the Pentagon does not support at this moment the transfer of additional combat aircrafts to the Ukrainian Air Force

Kirby said that the United States believes that the supply of such fighters will not change much.

During a press conference, Kirby stated that the effectiveness of the Ukrainian forces’ operations, in addition to being a high risk, may cause a tangible response from the Russian side, which increases the possibility of a military escalation with NATO.
