The National Program for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention in Newborns gives children equal growth opportunities
The National Program for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention in Newborns, which is scheduled to be launched soon, is a tool to ensure that every newborn in Syria has the opportunity to conduct an audiological survey, then diagnosis and medical intervention when needed, through official and civil efforts, organizations and associations, and with great support from the First Lady Asma Al-Assad.
Dr. Samer Mohsen, Head of the Audiology Department and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University stated that the early detection of hearing loss in newborns contributes to reducing the effects of possible hearing loss in some newborns in Syria, which ensures that all children are given equal opportunities for proper growth and start their lives and the formation of their natural personality without the presence of obstacles and problems in hearing, speech and expression.
Dr. Mohsen pointed out that the program adopts scientific protocols for early detection and intervention, which constitutes a guarantee for following a correct scientific methodology based on evidence in the implementation of early detection and intervention.
The Ministries of Health, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Defense, Interior, the Syrian Organization for Persons with Disabilities “Aamal” and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent are working on implementing the program.
