The national delegation to the Constitutional Committee will continue to engage positively in the Committee’s meetings

The Constitutional Committee on Syria concluded the meetings of its fifth round in Geneva on Friday.

Head of the national delagation to the committee Ahmad Al-Kuzbari affirmed that the delegation presented some ideas that reflect the aspirations of the Syrian people, pointing out that the delegation will continue to engage in the committee’s meetings positively.

Al-Kuzbari said that the delegation submitted a paper that contained basic items that serve the process of constitutional reform and the national delegation is now waiting for the response of the other side during the next round.

According to Al-Kuzbari, the other side circumvented the agenda of the committee which included discussing the main principles of the constitution and proposed some ideas that serve the agendas of certain countries that control members of the opposition side.

Replying to journalists’ questions, Al-Kuzbari said that the main principles form the constitutions’s solid base and they include foremost of which preserving the Syrian State’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, not conceding an inch of the Syrian land and not allowing any foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.”

“We also proposed another key principle represented in maintaining the state’s symbols, including the state’s name, flag, national anthem and official language..All these elements are important factors that all concerned parties should reach an agreement on,” Al-Kuzbai added.

Earlier on Friday, the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen announced the conclusion of the fifth round of the Syria Constitutional committee without achieving any progress despite prolonged discussions.
