The Ministry of Culture receives UNESCO’s certificate on including the Oud crafting and playing in Syria on its list of human heritage
Damascus (ST): Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mshaweh on Sunday received the certificate of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) on including the element of making and playing the oud in Syria on the list of intangible cultural human heritage.
The Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for UNESCO, Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, who handed the certificate to Minister Mshaweh, explained that by including UNESCO making and playing the oud in Syria on the list of intangible cultural human heritage, Syria will have put a new cultural footprint in the global human heritage.
In her turn, Minister Mshaweh stressed, during receiving the certificate, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Syrian National Commission for UNESCO, Dr. Nidal Hassan, that UNESCO’s inclusion of the element of making and playing the oud in Syria on the list of intangible cultural human heritage guarantees the continuity and sustainability of this heritage. Mshaweh thanked everyone who contributed to this field, especially the organization and the staff of the Ministries of Education and Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development.
