The martyrdom of a released Palestinian prisoner as a result of medical negligence

Freed Palestinian prisoner Farouk Al-Khatib was martyred due to the crime of medical negligence committed by the Israeli occupation against him during his detention period.

” the thirty-year old Al-Khatib  died last night, as a result of the crime of medical negligence committed by the occupation authorities against him before his release last December” The Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said in a statement on Monday

The statement indicated that the occupation forces had arrested Al-Khatib last August for four months. During which he contracted cancer, and his condition worsened as a result of the occupation authorities’ refusal to provide him with the necessary treatment.

The Authority pointed out that since the start of the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip, torture, abuse, and medical crimes against prisoners have escalated, which led to the death of at least 18 prisoners inside the occupation’s detention centers, in addition to the martyrdom of dozens of those arrested by the occupation in the Strip.

The occupation forces arrested Al-Khatib for the first time in 2019 and released him in early 2023. He was in poor health at that time due to a weak heart muscle. This did not prevent the occupation from re-arresting him in August of the same year, only to release him about five months after his condition deteriorated due to cancer.
