The Mariamite Cathedral of Damascus holds mass on the New Year’s Day

Marking the New Year’s Day, the Mariamite Cathedral for the Greek Orthodox in Bab Touma neighborhood in Damascus on Saturday held a mass presided over by Patriarch Youhanna X Yazigi of Antioch and All East for the Greek Orthodox.

 A number of priests and archbishops as well as Al-Kanara Choir assisted Patriarch Yazigi in this mass.

The New Year’s sermon was delivered by Bishop Ephraim Maalouli Metropolitan of Aleppo, Alexandretta and their Dependencies.

He stressed the sublime meaning of the birth of the Jesus Christ, the messenger of amity and peace, wishing that the new year will bring goodness, safety and stability to Syria.

 He said “we need God’s mercy and care, because we start the new year while the Corona pandemic, which led to the death of many loved ones, is still active in our country.”

“We pray for peace to prevail in Syria, which is getting out of the terrorist war waged against it, but the repercussions of this war are still affecting the Syrians’ livelihood and economy”, Maalouli added.
