“The Magic Eye” and “Deep Sleep” are two Syrian films in the Cinema House shows

Damascus (ST): The Cinema House project provided an opportunity for short film lovers to watch two Syrian films as part of the project’s screening plan at Al-Kindi Cinema in Damascus.

The first medium-length film, entitled The Magic Eye, directed by Hazem Zeidan, which he wrote together with Amir Abu al-Khair, presents human worlds with a lot of emotional subjectivity in the style of magical realism.

About showing the film in the cinema house, Zeidan said in a statement:  “This is my first professional film after graduating from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Egypt, and it is the first building block of my cinematic project that I am working on, indicating that showing the film in the cinema is a good opportunity to inform the audience about it.”

In turn, actor, Lama, as the heroine of the work, explained that the filmmakers worked on it with a lot of love, despite all the difficulties that existed at the time of its filming in 2018, pointing out that the film was shown only once at the Short Film Festival because short and medium films do not have many screening opportunities.

The second movie, titled “Deep Sleep”, written and directed by Khaled Othman Farshad deals with the story of a family composed of a retired couple and their young immigrant son married to a foreigner, to see the repercussions and effects of war on the lives of these people, especially the father, the film director, who is haunted by the obsession of death and survival at the same time.

Regarding the film, director Othman said that this work was the culmination of the study trip at the Higher Institute of Cinema and the period that followed, and it was produced in 2020, indicating that the film project he is working on is concerned with presenting cinema that resembles life.

For his part, the able actor Abbas Al-Nouri, the hero of the film, who completed the dramatic treatment of it, confirmed that the idea of the film is simple but effective and profound.
