The Kazakh Foreign Ministry: The new round of Astana talks on Syria may be next summer

Nur-Sultan, (ST) – The press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan said that, the new round of Astana talks on Syria in the capital, Nur-Sultan, may take place next summer, but everything will be linked to the health situation related to the Coronavirus.

A representative of the press office said in an interview with RIA Novosti, “Certainly, no meetings will take place next May, and it is expected that this will take place in the summer, but everything will depend on the health situation in the country.”

In the final statement of the fifteenth meeting of the Astana formula, which was held in the Russian city of Sochi on the 16th and 17th of last February, the guarantors of the Astana process reaffirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter. They stressed the need to respect these principles globally and adhere to them in addition to the continuation of cooperation until the elimination of terrorist organizations in Syria.
