The “Association of Detainees and Missing Persons from Sednaya prison” said that the associations of survivors, families of detainees, and missing persons emphasized during their meeting with President Ahmad al-Sharaa, that “revealing the truth about tens of thousands of missing persons and holding accountable those responsible for violations is a non-negotiable right and a fundamental condition for achieving justice.”
They stressed that “transitional justice is not confined to the criminal aspect only, but also includes institutional reform and commemorating the victims’ memory.”
According to the Association, President Al-Sharaa affirmed the government’s commitment to giving the issue of missing persons top priority, working to establish a body specialized in missing persons affairs and not repeating previous violations. He also expressed the government’s keenness to communicate continuously with the Associations of families of the missing and the victims.
