The Iranian ambassador in Damascus visits Lattakia to inspect the damage caused by the earthquake

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Mahdi Sobhani, visited Lattakia Governorate, accompanied by a convoy of food aid and relief materials, to support efforts aimed at confronting the repercussions of the earthquake.

The visit included a meeting with the Governor of Lattakia, Eng. Amer Hilal, in which the two sides discussed the damage caused by the earthquake and the difficulties that faced the search and rescue efforts and the government’s initial response due to the lack of mechanisms and weak capabilities because of the circumstances of the war, the siege, the economic sanctions imposed on Syria. The two sides pointed out the Iranian aid that has not stopped since the first days of the disaster.

In a press statement after the meeting, the Iranian ambassador affirmed the continuation of providing aid to those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria on the sixth of last February, noting that this convoy was provided by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Iranian companies and the Iranian community residing in Syria to contribute, even with a small part, to alleviate the crisis and the suffering of those affected.

Sobhani added: The aid is a token of love and solidarity from the Iranian people to the brothers in Syria and the Iranian citizens are always by the side of their Syrian brothers until this ordeal is over.

In turn, Eng. Hilal praised the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for Syria and its continuous support in difficult circumstances, the latest of which was this earthquake disaster, stressing the strong fraternal relations that bind the two countries.
