The Intelligent Spatial Planning Conference and the Role of Urban Data launched at the University of Damascus
Damascus (ST): With the participation of Arab and foreign researchers, the work of the Second International Scientific Conference on Intelligent Spatial Planning and Urban Data Management, organized by the Higher Institute of Regional Planning, was launched in the Reda Saeed Conference Hall at the University of Damascus, with the aim of providing exceptional value to students, academics and researchers in spatial planning at all levels.
Over the course of two days, the participants will discuss several axes, most notably urban structural regional planning, high-quality development, the smart spatial planning approach to managing natural and human resources, planning for sustainable smart urban communities and smart community planning.
Dr. Mohsen Bilal, a member of the central leadership of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and head of the Central Office of Higher Education, said that the conference is a high-class scientific and social event that includes important scientific figures from home and abroad, especially from Italy, whose researchers are interested in the ancient city of Damascus, as well as its well-known civil engineers, expressing his hope that the outcomes of the conference will be optimally invested.
Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, President of Damascus University, indicated that the conference constitutes an opportunity to learn about the most important international experiences in this field, and a means to exchange the experiences of those interested in turning Syria into a country that adopts an urban approach based on the concepts of smart city planning.
The Governor of Damascus, Eng. Muhammad Tariq Krishati, indicated that the governorate worked in cooperation with the University of Damascus to develop a framework plan that extends from mid-2022 until the end of 2025 under the title (Old Damascus, a sustainable city towards digital transformation of the historic city of Damascus), with the aim of removing the danger from The Old City of Damascus to remain on the World Heritage List and to upgrade Old Damascus to be a sustainable digital city that takes into account the life requirements of its residents and its economic, tourism, cultural and environmental dynamics, pointing out that the governorate is open to all ideas and research in this field, and all its capabilities will be put in support of its goals and results.
