The health sector in an earthquake disaster: An emergency response from the first moments and continuous treatment services around the clock

Damascus (ST): The efforts of the health sector in all its aspects have come together since the first hours following the earthquake at dawn on the 6th of this month, as the emergency room in the Ministry of Health has been activated to coordinate the response between its central directorates and health directorates in the governorates, which mobilized all their cadres directly in conjunction with sending medical convoys to supply the governorates affected, particularly regarding ambulances, mobile clinics and medical supply trucks.

The health system expanded to manage human and material resources in a momentary manner to ensure an urgent response to the effects of the earthquake, as the number of personnel who were present in the affected areas since the first moments of the earthquake exceeded 600 health workers, and hospitals and centers in the affected areas worked to their maximum capacity and around the clock to provide medical services to the injured and rescue the survivors from under the rubble, as medical services were provided to more than 2,300 injured people.
