The Health Ministry’s Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center continues to provide free services to patients

The Syrian Health Ministry’s Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center continues to provide free services to patients, including manufacturing and installing artificial limbs as well as rehabilitation, despite the difficulties in ensuring the raw materials and equipment necessary for  its work in the light of the economic blockade imposed by the West on Syria.

According to director of the center, Dr. Rafif Dahiyyeh, the center daily receives around 25 patients from different age categories. It provides free services to patients including children, such as manufacturing, installing and fixing prosthetics, as well as rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Dr. Rafifi clarified that during the past year, the center manufactured and fixed 985 upper and lower prosthetics and provided mobility aid devices like wheelchairs, walking frame and crutches with the support of international organizations.

She pointed out that the ministry coordinates with international organizations and local parties for overcoming the challenges of securing necessary raw materials for manufacturing the prosthetics in the center because of the coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

In 2019, the center started to apply the CAD-CAM technology in manufacturing prosthetics which saves time and effort and facilitates the manufacturing process, Dr. eng. Khansaa Sa’d from the center said.
