The head of the AKEL Cypriot party condemns the Israeli aggression against Syria and the Gaza Strip

The Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Cyprus Dr. Ammar Awad reviewed with the Secretary -General of the AKEL Communist Party Stefanos Stepheno, the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and the potential impact on the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean region in the event of the expansion of the aggression.

Stefano condemned the repeated Israeli and American aggression on Syrian soil, which increases the suffering of the Syrian people and increases  the already explosive situation in the region.

Stefano expressed his solidarity with the Syrian people, who are also subject to the sanctions imposed by the West, stressing the urgent need to end external interference in our region and find solutions through diplomatic channels.

Stefano stressed that the peoples of our turbulent region, like the Cypriot people, have the right to peace and progress, in light of the decisions of the United Nations and the prevailing international law.

Stefano stressed that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza is required to end the bloodshed and humanitarian catastrophe, and to reach a solution that leads to solving the Palestinian problem by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
