The General Sports Federation and the Syrian Olympic Committee mourn Syrian runner Khalifa Atish

On February 6th, the General Sports Federation and the Syrian Olympic Committee mourned the Syrian runner Khalifa Atish, who passed away in Kuwait at the age of 88. 

Atish was a champion for medium and long distances and the marathon, and spent his youth in the running games track .He then became a trainer who discovered and trained many talents, and made them Arab and continental champions.He earned the title of the Syrian human locomotive,” the Federation said in a statement today

 

Atish was born in Deir ez-Zor in 1934. He played with the Ghazi Club, then the Central Army Club, and then in the ranks of the National Athletics Team. 

He trained in the Central Army Club and the National Team, as well as several Kuwaiti clubs such as Khaitan, Al-Sahel, Al-Shabab and Al-Nasr. 

Atish won the Syrian championships in the 5000, 1500, and 800 races, as well as the 3000-meter steeplechase, the suburban race, and the marathon.
