The first workshop on preparing a national policy for digital accessibility for people with disabilities in Syria

Damascus-SA (ST): The Ministry of Communications and Technology, in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), will hold a workshop tomorrow on preparing a national policy for digital accessibility for people with disabilities in the meeting room of the Syrian Telecom Company.

In a statement to news reporter, Assistant Minister of Communications and Technology for Digital Transformation, Eng. Fadia Suleiman, indicated that the workshop is the first of its kind and aims to introduce the basic concepts of this policy and benefit from best practices for it through interactive tools for its development, guidelines and main technical standards, in addition to discussing the national plans for disability and a project National Digital Access Policy.

Suleiman explained that the ministry’s work to draw up a national policy for digital accessibility comes in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Article 9 of which stipulates the need for states parties to take appropriate measures to ensure that persons with disabilities have equal access with others to the physical environment, means of transportation, information and communications, including Information and communication technologies and systems.
