With the participation of 15 sculptors from different governorates, the activities of the first Syrian Sculpture Forum kicked off on Saturday in Tartous governorate.
The forum, which will last till the 15th of this month, represents a cultural event that adds an aesthetic and tourist value to Tartous Beach.
The forum’s supervisor, sculptor Aktham Abdel Hamid, told SANA reporter that the aim of the forum, which is organized and hosted by the “Jonada” resort, is to transform a rock wall into a mural painting, in addition to sculpting four works of stone pieces, that embody the marine environment and so are related to the aesthetic of the region.
He noted the importance of holding forums that add visual culture to the visiting audience from different segments of society, where the mechanism of making sculpture work is introduced and each sculptor expresses his idea, style, sufficient experience and his modern tools for sculpting the painting.
Regarding the nature of the stone, the sculptor Yusra Muhammad, who is a teacher at the Institute of Applied Arts in Damascus, indicated that the stone varies in severity, and is dealt professionally, expressing her wish that her work would be an integrated painting that would impress the audience.
From Al –Sweidah province, sculptor Osama Amasha stressed that the forum is a platform to exchange experiences and artistic ideas, explaining that his works are derived from mythology “the revelation of legend”, as he embodied women’s issues, the relationship of women and men, and the extent to which the mythical thought was affected by the fish.
In turn, sculptor Muhammad Bajano from Lattakia Governorate pointed out that the forum represents a creative cultural situation that increases building bridges with artists, indicating that what distinguishes this forum is that each sculptor expresses his own technique, according to his art school in a new and different way.
Plastic artist Lama Kokoush indicated that the children’s segment received attention from the organizers of the forum, where a ceramic workshop was held on the sidelines of the forum, noting that they work in an enthusiastic and interactive atmosphere.
