Damascus, (ST) – The first direct plane from Venezuela to Syria arrived on Wednesday at Damascus International Airport, coming from Caracas Airport, marking the return of air traffic between the two countries, which has been suspended for nearly 12 years.
SANA’s correspondent reported that there were 102 passengers on board, including the Venezuelan Minister of Transport, the Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister and an accompanying delegation.
Ambassador Khalil Bitar, Director of the US Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, said in a press statement at Damascus Airport: It is scheduled that there will be a flight every 15 days between Damascus and Caracas.
In turn, Venezuelan Minister of Transport Ramon Velazquez said: After 12 years, we will resume flights between our two countries, and this flight represents a victory for our two peoples and countries. This flight is the embodiment of the will of the leaderships of the two countries and comes in the interest of the Syrian and Venezuelan peoples”, the minister added.
The Venezuelan Ambassador to Damascus, Jose Biomorji Musatis also mentioned that the return of air traffic comes as a result of the tremendous efforts of the two countries and represents a step forward in strengthening relations.
