The final statement of the 16th international meeting of the Astana Talk

 On July 8th, the final statement of the 16th international meeting of the Astana Talks stressed the continuation of joint action to combat terrorism in Syria until its final elimination.

* The statement rejected separatist agendas aimed at undermining Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 * The statement indicated that the guarantor states renew their strong commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.

* The statement rejected  all attempts to create new facts on the ground under the pretext of fighting terrorism and looting oil revenues that should belong to the Syrian Arab Republic.

* The statement condemned the continuous Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, which violate international law and international humanitarian law, and called for their cessation.

* The statement affirmed the commitment of the guarantor countries to advance the political process carried out by the Syrians and facilitated by the United Nations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

* The statement rejected any outside interference and any artificial timetables on the committee to discuss the constitution in Geneva and the need to support it in order to ensure its sustainable and effective work.

     It called on the international community to facilitate the safe and voluntary return of the Syrian refugees and displaced people to their homeland.

     The statement indicated that the 17th round of Astana meeting on Syria will be held in Nur-Sultan before the end of 2021, taking into consideration the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
