The European Union calls for stopping settlement and demolishing Palestinian homes

On March 15th, the Commissioner for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union, Josep Borrell, called for stopping the expansion of settlement operations in the occupied Palestinian territories and the demolition of Palestinian homes.

During the plenary session of the European Parliament, Borrell said that the settlements are illegal under international law, and their expansion, as well as the demolitions and displacement of Palestinians from their homes, must stop.

Borrell referred to the seriousness of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and the need to stop settler attacks against the Palestinians.

He added that the European Union will continue to work with its international partners to find a settlement to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

On February 4th, six European countries (France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland) called in a joint statement on the Israeli occupation to reverse its decision to establish 7 thousand settlement units in the West Bank.

The six European countries condemned the Israeli settlers’ attacks on the Palestinians and the destruction of their property.
