The elimination of terrorism in Syria will lead to stability and return of the displaced, says Lavrov
Moscow, (ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated the necessity of eliminating terrorism in Syria permanently, explaining that this will lead to stability and return of the displaced to their country
“The elimination of terrorism in Syria will help solve humanitarian issues and return the displaced,” Lavrov said in a speech marking the 90th birthday of the late Russian diplomat Yevgeny Primakov.
He noted that the Constitutional Discussion Committee would begin its work in Geneva this week.
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced on the 23rd of last month that an agreement has been reached to form a committee to discuss the constitution, praising the efforts of the Syrian government in this regard. Meanwhile, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen affirmed that the work of the committee will start in Geneva by the end of the current month.
On the other hand, Lavrov pointed out that Primakov had always called for the joint action to solve the crises in the Middle East and North Africa, but “regrettably, our colleagues in the West didn’t listen to him,” and we are seeing the results of that in Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Syria.
