The Economic History of the Middle Euphrates and Al-Jazira Regions, a new book by Dr. Rami al-Dhelli

The book, The Economic History of the Middle Euphrates and Al-Jaizra Regions, by Dr. Rami Waheed al-Dhelli, talks about the strategic location of this region, which is in the middle of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, in addition to the historical colonial ambitions in it due to its economic importance.

In his book, issued by the Arab Writers Union, the researcher al-Dhelli shows the developments in this region, whose transformations began since the beginning of the Ottoman occupation and its entry into the Levant, pointing to the keenness of the Ottoman Sultanate at that time to link this region directly to the capital, Astana.

The book depicts the richness of the environment in this region, the plains, trees and urbanization it contains, and the proficiency in handicrafts, internal trade, exports and imports that the occupation benefited from, before it destroyed, seized and exploited the region, and revealed bad habits that led to deterioration.

It is noteworthy that the author has written a number of books, including the “Administrative and Political History of Deir Ezzor during the Ottoman Era”, “Social life, customs and traditions in the Middle Euphrates and the Syrian Al-Jazira Regions during the Ottoman occupation”, in addition to a number of research and university books such as the history of medical sciences with the participation of a number of authors.

Regarding the book, the chairman of the Union of Arab Writers, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, stressed the importance of research and historical books that deal with geography, nature and handicrafts, which have a great impact on social life, indicating the necessity of not limiting publication to literary genres that include poetry, story, novel, research and criticism.
