The Cultural Heritage Conference “Bridge of Peace” held on the third day of “The Damascene Rose… From Syria to Turin” project in Italy

Rome (ST): The Cultural Heritage Conference “Bridge of Peace” was held today in the Italian city of Turin, as part of the activities of the third day of the “The Damascene Rose… From Syria to Turin” Days, organized by the Royal Museums in Turin and the Syrian Trust for Development in cooperation with the “Santagata” Organization for the economy of culture.

Dr. Hammam Saad, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, took part in the conference, which was hosted by the Celebration Hall in the Royal Palace in Turin.

A group of Italian antiquities experts, led by Paolo Mattiae, the discoverer of Ebla and who was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit of Excellent Degree, also participated in the conference.

Dr. Saad stressed that despite the war on Syria and the unfair coercive economic measures that have been imposed on the Syrian people and despite harsh conditions, the Syrians continued to innovate in various fields of life, indicating that throughout the experience we lived in Syria, culture, in all its forms, remained a necessary human act.

At the end of the conference, the consultant expert at the Syrian Trust for Development Reem Saqr reviewed the proposals presented, including the potential role of museums, finding ways for effective participation of the local community, allocating resources, for training initiatives and finding ways to deal with the coercive economic measures imposed on Syria for many years.

Saqr confirmed that the Damascene Rose project in Turin built a bridge of friendship and peace, and allowed culture to do what it was supposed to do, expressing appreciation for the efforts of the Royal Museum, the Santagata Organization, and everyone who participated in the success of this important cultural project.
