The craft sector in Homs is witnessing gradual recovery… 70 facilities have been licensed and implemented since the beginning of the year

Homs, (ST) – With a capital of about SYP 23 billion , 115 industrial and craft facilities have been licensed and implemented in the Homs Industry Directorate since the beginning of this year until now. These facilities ensure about 1150 job opportunities.

Engineer Bassam Al-Saeed, director of Homs industry, explained to SANA that the industrial and craft sector is witnessing a growing movement towards restoring the progress of the  production process, which contributes to securing a large part of the governorate’s needs of goods and services, as well as providing job opportunities.`

He indicated that the licensed and executed facilities and crafts for the mentioned period included 45 industrial projects and 70 craft projects, of which 13 industrial establishments entered the production stage including eight food facilities, one engineering and four chemical establishments.

In a similar statement, Azab Shamsin, head of the Federation of Craft Societies in Homs, referred to the gradual recovery of the  various crafts in the governorate after an absence imposed by the crisis. In addition to the losses that this sector suffered and the migration of workforce and professional artisans. He noted the strong return of some crafts related to construction and building, such the marble, tiles, building materials and car repair due to the return to normal life now, and in view of the encouraging laws and decisions, especially Investment Law No. 18 for the current year. It states great facilities and flexibility to start pioneering investment projects, which contributes to economic advancement in an accelerated way in the province.

It is noteworthy that the number of industrial and handicraft establishments registered in the records of the Homs Industry Directorate is currently 10,378, including 2,282 industrial establishments and the rest are handicrafts. The number of artisans registered in the records of the Homs Craftsmen Union is about 4000.
