The confiscation of a large number of various artifacts after the arrest of a group trading in antiquities in Tartous

On April 26th, the Crime Security Branch in Tartous confiscated a large number of various artifacts after arresting a group trading in antiquities.

 The Head of the Criminal Security Branch in Tartous, Colonel Assef Al-Ali, stated that 15 people were arrested in the countryside of Tartous and about 150 artifacts found in their possession were confiscated .

 Colonel Al-Ali pointed out that after inspecting the artifacts by a specialized committee in the Directorate of Antiquities of Tartous, it was found that they were of a rare type.

 

 In turn, the Director of Tartous Antiquities, Engineer Marawan Hassan, stated that after inspecting the confiscated artifacts by a specialized committee at the request of the Crime Security Branch, it became clear that most of them are very important and date back to different historical periods.

 Hassan explained that the Criminal Security Branch handed over the confiscated material  to the Directorate of Antiquities of Tartous and placed within the Tartous Museum.

 The confiscated material  included glass and pottery vessels and various gold, silver and bronze coins in addition to statues, amulets, rings, seals, gold earrings, ivory hair clips, pottery and bronze saddles.
