The village of “Obein” is one of Safita’s beautiful and peaceful villages. It is distinguished by its privileged location, its charming nature, and the kindness of its people.
The word Obein is a Byzantine word, which means a censer, because Obein is located at the foot of the mountain with two mountains surrounding it, so it looks like a censer.
Obein is about 4 km from Safita and 33 km from Tartus Governorate.
It is located at the foot of Abu Murad Mountain. Terraces, trees, and orchards that are watered by many springs, including Ain Obein, surround it. The Ain Obein is located in the center of the village and has a special value and distinct memories in the minds of the people of the village and the neighboring villages, in addition to Qurain Spring and some small springs such as Ain Saleh and Ain Haddad. In addition to the Abu Yabis River that forms the border of the village with Beit Tayoun is a seasonal river that runs from the rain-generated torrential water, streams, and pours into the sea.
People in Obein depend on farming for their livelihood. They are known for planting winter vegetables, but they are interested in trees like olives, which occupy large areas of village land, pomegranate, and citrus of all kinds.
In the past, it was considered the center of attraction for the nearby villages for the existence of a preparatory school, which was the oldest one there.
