The branch of the Syrian Computer Society in Lattakia participates in the global “Hour of Code” event

With the aim of spreading the culture of Information technology IT  among children and adolescents, the Lattakia branch of the Syrian Computer Society SCS takes part in the “Hour of Code” event for the third year in a row.

The hour of code is a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code. Org reaching tens of millions of students through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.

Head of SCS’s branch in Lattakia  Eng. Maryam Fayoud, said in a statement to Syriatimes e-newspaper that the scientific event, which will  last for a full week at a rate of two training hours per day, aims to highlight the field of programming, and expand participation in the computer field.

She pointed out that   more than 100 children and young people   from Lattakia province share with more than 100 million participants from 180 countries around the world  basic computer sciences and an introduction to programming.

Eng. Fayoud expressed the SCS ‘s keenness to continue presenting its usual activities and expanding them with qualitative ones   that meet international standards, in order to ensure the contribution of the beneficiaries of these activities to the advancement of the Syrian society and making it among the developed and pioneering countries in the field of information.

The two trainers of the event Areej Sultan and Agathi Jabbour stressed the importance of the event to exchange expertise with other trainers , train children at a young age, to adopt simplified concepts about programming, and to motivate them to become interested and possibly end up as programmers in the future.

The trainees were divided according to age groups, and each category had its own programming activities.
