The Arab youth delegations participating in the Solidarity Forum with Syria visit the National Museum in Damascus
As part of the activities of the Solidarity Arab Youth Forum, the Arab youth delegations visited the National Museum in Damascus on March 11th.
The delegations were briefed on the archaeological holdings in the Museum’s sections and the gardens that contain artifacts that represent the various stages of Syrian civilization.
The National Union of Syrian Students and the Revolutionary Youth Union Organization hosted Arab youth delegations comprising 92 young men and women from ten Arab countries to participate in the activities of the Solidarity Youth Forum under the title “Together to End the Siege and Unjust Sanctions on Syria.”
The Director General of Antiquities and Museums, Muhammad Nazir Awad, gave a presentation in which he explained that the museum was established in 1919 and is one of the most important international museums.
He said that there are more than 30,000 archaeological sites registered with the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Syria, of which 6 are listed on the World Heritage List.
He referred to the systematic destruction of a number of archaeological sites due to terrorism, in addition to the theft and smuggling of hundreds of artifacts abroad.
He said that 80 artifacts have been rescaptured so far, pointing out that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria impede the process of restoring archaeological sites that were attacked by terrorists.
For their part, members of the visiting delegations considered that the destroyed antiquities reveal the falsity of the humanitarian slogans raised by the United States of America.
Dr. Suhad Zahran from Palestine said: “Syria is the mother of civilization, and its antiquities and culture are evidence of that, and we hope that these antiquities that we saw will remain proud,”
From Egypt, Dr. Ragab Mahmoud Yassin stated that the aim of their visit is to break the siege and to deliver a message to the countries of the world that all Arab countries stand today with Syria, its people, its leadership and its army in confronting the Western countries.
From Iraq, Ahmed Al-Marei considered visiting the National Museum a journey between ancient times, as he confirms the richness of the Syrian civilization, which will remain immortal.
Al-Marei said that Syria will remain strong with the cohesion of its people and will triumph over terrorism and the economic blockade.
