The Arab Labor Conference begins its 47th session with the participation of Syria

Cairo (ST): The Arab Labor Conference started its forty-seventh session in the Egyptian capital, Cairo with the participation of the delegation of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria headed by Jamal Al-Qaderi, the head of the Federation.

 

The conference will discuss the report of the Director-General of the Arab Labor Office on entrepreneurship, small projects and the path towards sustainable development and empowerment, the report of the activities of the Arab Labor Organization during the years 2019 and 2020, and the follow-up to the implementation of the decisions of the Arab Labor Conference, financial matters, plan and budget, and the implementation of Arab labor agreements and recommendations.

In a video speech at the opening of the conference, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed that the Arab world faces many challenges imposed by the current global system and the events and developments it is going through that affect and are affected by the world of work, especially in the field of employment and reducing unemployment.

El-Sisi pointed out that all of this requires moving forward towards preparing appropriate strategies to advance comprehensive Arab development, ensuring its activation on the ground, enhancing and supporting economic cooperation and exchanging of information and experiences among Arab countries.

Sisi stressed the need to work to remove obstacles and barriers for integration among Arab countries and to reach new and advanced mechanisms to bring about comprehensive Arab regional integration by facilitating intra-regional trade, exchanging goods and services, transferring capital and promoting joint investments.

The conference is attended by 16 Arab labor ministers and 404 participating members from the delegations of employers’ organizations, labor unions, the General Secretariat of the Arab League, representatives of Arab and international organizations, Arab specific and professional unions, and a number of Arab and international personalities.

It is noteworthy that the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions has  elected Jamal Al-Qaderi as its Secretary-General.
