The Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa reviews the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake in Lattakia
Lattakia (ST): The Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Damascus, Barry Gilder, and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake of last February 6, in a number of sites in the cities of Lattakia and Jableh, with the aim of assessing the needs and the possibility of providing assistance according to priority.
In a statement to reporters, Ambassador Gilder expressed his regret at the painful scenes of destruction caused by the earthquake, stressing that his country would like to provide assistance to the people of Lattakia Governorate and other areas in Syria to help them overcome the effects of this earthquake.
In the same context, the Governor of Lattakia, Engineer Amer Ismail Hilal, discussed with Ambassador Gilder the needs in the governorate according to priorities, as a result of the repercussions of the earthquake.
Governor Hilal reviewed the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake and the difficulties in overcoming its repercussions, as a result of the lack of capabilities due to the conditions of war and the unjust siege on Syria, especially with regard to the completion of the demolition of damaged buildings that are about to collapse and the lack of medical equipment and medicines in hospitals.
The governor praised the positions of the Republic of South Africa in support of Syria, thanking the government of the Republic of South Africa for the initiative to provide a helping hand and assistance to overcome some of the effects of the earthquake.
