The aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy as a unique art

Ancient Arabic calligraphy was known for centuries as a sophisticated work of beauty, as it is an ancient form of art dating back to the third century. Arabic alphabet is of historical significance and it has a distinguished position in modern art.

With the aim of  highlighting  the aesthetics of the Arabic letter, the plastic artist Khaldoun Al-Ahmad works in the lettering formations after a study on how to formulate the letter including diacritics, colors and oriental rhythm due to the flexibility of Arabic calligraphy in drawing.

The artist, who studied art at “Fathi Muhammad” Center for Fine Arts in the city of Aleppo, was interested in his beginnings in realistic then expressive drawing, to be fascinated by the abstract school in its various manifestations, from which he moved to the letters art because through it he was able to embody the relationship of the letter with color and music in an abstract way.

“The Arabic letter has been the centerpiece of my plastic paintings and I developed the idea of forming it by adding color formations to highlight its charms and beauty because it embodies our language that we are proud of” the artist Al-Ahmed told SANA.

He confirmed that he studied a lot about the formation of the Arabic letter, its rhythms and its relationship with color, until he was able to form it within lettering paintings which embody a unique visual language with an oriental rhythm.

Concerning his calligraphy experience the artist said, “I am not a calligrapher, but I draw the letter aesthetically within the artwork and through the color weaving of joy, love and beauty, which embodied our Arabic alphabet in a distinctive style.”

The artist Al-Ahmad has got a lot of fine calligraphy paintings and exhibitions that symbolized the letter rhythms within paintings and models that he implemented and developed in addition to the dot paintings that were distinguished by their presence in his exhibitions because of their importance in the Arabic letter

Al-Ahmad, who has taken a unique and distinctive plastic approach in the alphabet with its peculiarity and precious value, depends on the colors of the surrounding nature to give oriental touches to the paintings, searching for everything that is distinctive in the language of Al-Dhad to present it to the world of plastic art.
