The activities of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Women, Peace and Security begin at the Arab League
Cairo,(ST)-With the participation of Syria, the activities of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Women, Security and Peace kicked off today under the title “Enhancing Protection and Comprehensive Response to the Needs of Women in Conflict Areas… Women Face Wars” at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
Syria is represented in the conference by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Eng. Samar al-Sabai, and is attended by a number of ministers, heads of delegations of Arab countries, and representatives of specialized regional and international organizations.
The conference will address during its dialogue sessions the efforts made to implement the agenda of women, security and peace at the regional level, the suffering of women and human rights violations under the Israeli occupation, wars and armed conflicts, enhancing the effective participation of women in peacemaking and building, recovery and reconstruction efforts, and comprehensive response to the needs of women in conflict areas, and emergency situations.
The conference, which will be held over two days, will also discuss the topics of providing mental health services, psychosocial support for women and girls, the risks of violence against women and girls in the context of asylum and displacement, and the national action plans of Arab countries and their implementation.
The opening of the conference was attended by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States Ambassador Hussam al-Din Ala.
