The 46th Marmarita Carnival: Social and cultural images of this area’s civilization

Homs (ST): With the participation of civil and popular activities and expatriates from Homs western countryside, the Marmarita Carnival continues to spread joy and happiness every year through the annual event that is held on the occasion of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.

The carnival, in its 46th year, toured the town of Marmarita in the western countryside of Homs, and presented various artistic performances, dance shows, and expressive cartoon figures carried by cars, accompanied by artistic teams in fancy clothes and musical performances by scout teams.

In a statement, Zahir Yazigi, one of the organizers of the carnival, indicated that the carnival is an annual tradition that the people of the town and its people in the homeland and abroad used to prepare for and participate in, as it represents a social and cultural situation that reflects the distinguished civilized character of the people of Marmarita.

Dana Al-Khal, who has been living in Sweden for 20 years, pointed out that she came to participate in the carnival to live the atmosphere of Eid, joy and love in her country, while the Syrian daughter of Al-Jazira region, Wurud Lahdou, said that the carnival constitutes a distinctive social situation, as it is the result of a collective effort that reflects the aesthetic and artistic character with unique and beautiful designs that the participants were keen on to display it in the best possible way.

Tawfiq Faour praised the social and religious rituals preserved by the people of Marmarita, who gather the people of Syria from different provinces to celebrate joy and intimacy in this carnival.
