Astana, (ST) – The 22nd International Meeting on Syria under the Astana Format kicked off today in the Kazakh capital, Astana.
In addition to the Syrian delegation, delegations from the guarantor states “Russia, Turkey and Iran” will participate in the two-day meeting, in addition to delegates from the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq as observers.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced last Friday that the next international meeting on Syria under the Astana Format is scheduled to be held in the Kazakh capital on November 11 and 12.
The ministry clarified in a statement that bilateral and tripartite consultations will be held between the delegations on the first day of the meeting, to continue the following day, indicating that a general session and a final press conference are scheduled to be held on November 12.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry indicated that the meeting’s agenda includes issues of the development of the regional situation around Syria, efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement and the situation on the ground in Syria.
The 21st meeting under the Astana formula was held in the Kazakh capital on January 24 and 25, and its final statement included in its first clause an emphasis on respecting Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
