The 1st conference for investment in electricity and renewable energies sector kicks off in Damascus

DAMASCUS, May.15, (ST)-The 1st  conference for investment in the electricity and renewable energies sector kicked off on Sunday in the presence of the Prime Minister Hussein Arnous at the “Beit Al-Yasmin” Hotel in Damascus.
 
In the opening ceremony, the Minister of Electricity Ghassan Al-Zamil said that the ministry works on encouraging and supporting investment in the field of renewable energies through policies or legislation with the aim of launching power generation projects by the private or public sector or by partnership between them. 
 
The minister  pointed out that the electricity sector, during the years of the war on Syria, was a main target for terrorist groups as it was the strategic and the strong engine for every economic, industrial, medical, service or educational activity.
 
The two-day event is being held under the slogan “Investment in Renewable Energies and Electricity, the Engine of Sustainable Development in Syria”. 
 
It aims at presenting the investment opportunities in renewable energies and government investment incentives, searching for opportunities to finance renewable energy projects, presenting and discussing investment challenges in them and the incentives that can be provided to develop investments and encourage the entry of private and joint investment in the electricity generation and distribution sector and reaching formulas to develop work besides discussing the experiences of countries In this field. 
 
The Syrian Investment Commission, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, the Central Bank of Syria, the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, the Arab Commission for Renewable Energy, and Syrian, Arab and foreign investors are taking part in the conference.
