Terrorists’ Crimes, Unfair Sanctions Worsened Humanitarian Crisis in Syria: al-Maollem

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer on Monday discussed cooperation between the Syrian government and the ICRC as to meet the humanitarian needs of the Syrian citizens.

Al-Moallem reviewed the government’s efforts to improve the living and humanitarian condition of the Syrian people countrywide in addition to the positive results of the national reconciliation process going on in several areas despite difficulties resulted from the crimes of the foreign-backed terrorist groups. He stressed that the terrorists’ crimes plus the unfair western sanctions on Syria have played a big role in the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria.

 The deputy premier affirmed that the Syrian government highly appreciates ICRC’s efforts and cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent SARC as to meet the humanitarian requirements of the Syrian people, expressing the government’s readiness to facilitate the ICRC’s work as long as it is carried out in accordance with humanitarian standards away from the political agendas of some countries.

On his part, Maurer thanked the Syrian government for its cooperation with the committee and for its exerted efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance and meet the basic needs of the citizens under the crisis. He affirmed the importance of enhancing this cooperation and of following up joint programs in the humanitarian field.
