Terrorist Attack against Egyptian Pilgrims in Minya Proves Terrorism Aggravation: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack that targeted a bus carrying dozens of pilgrims in the Egyptian province of  Minya and expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and wishing speed recovery to injured persons, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said ” the Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the coward terrorist attack which targeted Egyptian visitors on their way to pray at the monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in the western part of Minya province in the brotherly country of Egypt and which claimed the lives of 29 people, including women and children, and injured 25 others.”

The statement added that “the terrorist attacks being carried out by Daesh and al-Qaeda terrorist organizations in different parts of Arab countries and the world are but a new evidence of the aggravation of the terrorism phenomenon against the danger of which Syria has repeatedly warned”.

“Such coward terrorist acts prove that the international community has not risen yet to the confrontation of these challenges because of the lack of seriousness in fighting terrorist organizations and because of its double standards policy, not to mention the negligence of the western countries’ and their  tools in the Arab region to put an end to the threat of terrorism,” the statement added.

Concluding its statement, the ministry said that Syria urges the Security Council to adopt necessary decisive procedures to guarantee the implementation of its resolutions relating to fighting terrorism, which has been targeting the world countries, particularly Syria, Egypt, Iraq and other states, and to holding the countries supporting terrorism by funding, arming, training and sheltering the terrorists accountable.
