Terror Cell in Grip of Iraq Authorities

Iraqi authorities uncovered terrorist cell responsible for carrying out 15 bombings in Kirkuk province.

A source in Kirkuk police reported the event, adding that the cell is engaged in a suicide attack carried out by a Saudi doctor earlier in the province.

Iraqi police “discovered a terrorist cell that operates within the ranks of ISIL,” the source said, noting that the cell “involves three members, two of them are from Kirkuk while the third is from neighboring province”.

The detainees are responsible for carrying 15 bombings which killed dozens of civilians across Kirkuk, the source said, according to Iraqi channel, al Sumaria.

One of these bombings is the suicide attack which was carried out last June by a Saudi doctor, and killed 25 civilians in a checkpoint south of Kirkuk.

Meanwhile,  Iraqi security forces on Thursday killed five terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group and injured eight others in Aziz Balad area, South of Tikrit, Salahuddin province.

“Armed clashes broke out between the security forces, backed by the volunteers, and the ISIL terrorists in Aziz Balad area,” a security source said, adding that five terrorists were killed and eight others were injured during the clashes.
