Ten non-governmental organizations demand an “immediate and permanent ceasefire” in Gaza

Paris (ST) – Ten international non-governmental organizations called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip due to the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in this sector.

Agence France-Presse reported that Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders, Doctors of the World, Action Against Hunger, The International Emergency, Handicap International, Secours Islamique France (SIF), the International Federation for Human Rights, Amnesty International, and the Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (CCHFD) affirmed that this is a collective and global call for a ceasefire now.

The organizations indicated that since the 7th of last October,  we have been witnessing a comprehensive war in Gaza, where the scale of the humanitarian disaster has become unprecedented.

Head of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) France (Doctors Without Borders), Isabelle Defourny, stated that the situation is Gaza is hopeless, especially in overcrowded hospitals, as quarter of the patients the organization treats are children, half of them are under 18 years old, and three-quarters of the patients are women and children.

“For several days, we have been receiving bullet wounds, and so far we have only received victims of Israeli bombing”, Defourny added.

For his part, Joël Weiler, Director of doctors of the World, stressed that the current situation is worse than it was in all recent conflicts; “Gaza was originally a large prison, and today the prison has been divided into eight densely populated areas, and they are all being bombed”.

Weiler indicated that all their teams are suffering and do not know where to eat and sleep like other residents of the Strip.

Olivier Ruto, responsible for the operations of the International Emergency Organization, announced that Gaza is, with no doubt, the most dangerous place in the world for humanitarian workers, noting that they themselves follow the logic of survival with increasing concern due to hunger.

He said that last week’s team searched for six hours to secure food.

Human Rights Watch said that Israel intends to use starvation of civilians as a tool of war.

It is noteworthy that the number of the victims of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza for the 73rd day rose to 19453 martyrs and 52286 wounded, amid catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions and warnings of the spread of famine and the continued spread of diseases and epidemics, especially in shelter centers.
