Within ” the life Cinema” project, ten movies by young students from Tartous and Lattakia governorates were screened for two days at Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia.
The project, which lasted for a year, was held in cooperation between Lattakia’s Directorate of Culture and the United Nations Development Program ( UNDP) and included 43 young men and women from the two governorates who joined theoretical and practical workshops .
These workshops included the stages of film-making, starting from the idea and text to photography, editing, sound and directing under the supervision of specialists in this field.
The project aims, according to its coordinator Fadi Rahmoun, to highlight and develop the interests and hobbies of young people academically, provide them with the necessary tools for filmmaking and focus on their content concerning social issues to know the extent of the films’ impact on society and work to give social issues greater attention.
For his part, Iyad Junaidi, coordinator of the Community Cohesion Department at the UNDP office in the coastal region, pointed out that the project is directed to young people with talents and tries to link them to societal issues and phenomena, especially those that emerged after the war through cinema that is able to address ideas to the recipient in an indirect way.
Junaidy stressed that the films screened are produced entirely by students, starting with the idea, text, photography, acting, montage and others, hoping that the students will adopt them as a first step to launch in this field.
Sami Farah , who is a student at the civil engineering faculty in Tishreen university participated in the project through writing and directing the film titled “ Light and Dust “ .
He noted the importance of this initiative, which brought him back to his passion for cinema and consolidated his self-confidence in presenting and embodying his ideas, as well as allowing him to meet a large group of young people who share the same interest in cinema and worked together as an integrated team.
The project produced by dentist Rose Ibrahim, who has been working in the field of photography for a long time, with cinema being one of her top interests, is the documentary movie “The River of Secrets,”.
Dr. Ibrahim discussed through the movie the issue of women’s inheritance in rural areas and reviewed real stories of women from the countryside of Lattakia who spoke with full transparency about their experiences in this field , pointing to the cinema’s role in highlighting community issues as a first step to find solutions.
