Tehran Declaration: The media should not pose a threat to the sovereignty and independence of countries

Tehran (ST): The participants in the meetings of the General Assembly of the eighteenth session of the Organization of Asia and Pacific News Agencies “Oana” in Tehran stressed that the media should  not pose a threat to the sovereignty and independence of countries around the world.
According to the (Tehran Declaration) issued at the end of the meetings in which SANA, represented by its Director General, Iyad Wannous, was a part of, the participants affirmed the efforts of Awana members to increase the level of cooperation among them to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing the flow of news, and not to monopolize it.
The declaration called for facilitating the free flow of news and information in Asia and the Pacific, and for enhancing the availability of news information to citizens around the world without discrimination, noting that media organizations have devised new strategies and employed modern technologies to respond appropriately to public requirements.
On the sidelines of the “Oana ” meetings, the Director General of SANA Iyad Wannous and the Director General of the Iranian Mehr Agency, Muhammad Shajaian, discussed the need to diversify media content, especially in cultural and social issues, given the close cultural, social and historical relations that unite the two peoples in the two countries.
