DAR ES SALAM, (ST)-Tanzanian Foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga has expressed Tanzania’s support for the Syrian Arab Republic against any threat to its territorial integrity.
“It is our duty to stand by Syria whether the threat comes from the neighboring countries or others,” Mahiga said during his recent meeting with the Syrian Charge de Affairs at Syria’s Embassy in Dar es Salam.
“It is easy for anyone who is interested in realizing the reality of the Syrian opposition and how it was created to know that the United States and Turkey have supported some armed terrorist groups. So we understand the Russian support for the Syrian government and we follow up closely the peace conferences held on Syria,” the minister added, stressing his country’s support for the government, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
Mahiga hailed Syria’s deep-rooted history and cultural and human diversity, pointing out that what is going on in the country is the price of Syria’s being a crossroad and a renaissance center throughout its long history.
The Tanzanian diplomat expressed his will to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the political and economic domains, affirming that the Syrian-Tanzanian ties are historical and distinguished thanks to the joint efforts of late President Hafez Al-Assad and his late Tanzanian counterpart Julius Nyerere who both sought establishing a strong ground on which the two countries ties were built.
