TUNIS, (ST) – Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Taieb Baccouche has described cutting diplomatic relations with Syria as a wrong procedure and stressed that Tunisia’s interest “necessitates the existence of a Tunisian Consulate in Damascus.”
“We are against cutting relations with Syria and believe that such a procedure was wrong,” Baccouche told reporters, according to Reuters.
He said that “despite the Arab League’s decision, nine Arab countries still have representation in Syria at embassy or consulate level.”
He added that it serves the interest of Tunisia and the Tunisian community to have a consular representation in Syria.”
“We have appointed a new Consul in Damascus and he will head to the country as soon as possible to start job and follow up the affairs of the Tunisians in Syria,” Baccouche said.
