Amman, (ST) – The Syrian U-16 Football Team qualified for the final of the 11th West Asia Championship currently being held in Jordan after defeating its Jordanian counterpart today on penalties 4-5 after the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Syria team will face its Saudi counterpart in the final match to be held next Wednesday.
The Syria team team qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament after defeating the Bahraini team 2-1 and tying with its Palestinian counterpart 1-1 to top its group.
Nine teams are participating in the tournament, divided into three groups, with the Syrian team in Group 3 alongside Bahrain and Palestine.
The tournament system stipulates that the first team qualifies directly to the semi-finals, in addition to the best second-placed team from the three groups at the end of the first round.
