The 9th National Show of the Arabian Horse Beauty Championship kicked off on Friday at Al-Basel Equestrian Club in Dimas, Damascus Countryside.
The contest was organized by the Syrian Association of Purebred Arabian Horses in cooperation with the Department of the Arabian Horses at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform.
Several cavalry sports, including tent pegging and archery from horseback in addition to various artistic and musical activities were held in an enthusiastic and encouraging atmosphere created by horse beauty and equestrian fans.
During the opening ceremony, Deputy Head of the Syrian Association of Purebred Arabian Horses Tareq Abdul Rahim said that horse riding is a deep-rooted sport in Syria that achieved many success, the latest of which was winning gold medals in the horse show jumping in the Mediterranean Games held this year in the Algerian city of Oran.
This 2-day horse beauty championship is a continuation of the excellence achieved by the Syrian equestrianship through the beauty shows which witness a professional competition between purebred Syrian Arabian horses and the registered Arab horses, Abdul Rahim added.
He clarified that this beauty show aims at highlighting the originality and beauty of purebred Arabian horses in Syria and at maintaining this ancient heritage.
Several professional horse raisers, who are fond of highlighting the aesthetic qualities of the Syrian Arabian horses, their physical strength and their distinguished graceful movement, took part in the event.
