NEW DELHI, SEP.14, (ST)-The Syrian Ambassador to India, Bassam Al-Khatib, offered condolences on the death of the leader of the Marxist Communist Party of India, Sitaram Yechury, who had died at the age of 72 on the 12th of this month.
Yechury was being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection at a Delhi hospital where he was admitted on 19 August.
Ambassador Al-Khatib wrote a word in the register of condolences at the headquarters of the Communist Party of India-Marxist in New Delhi today, in which he praised the merits of Yechury, who played a prominent role in defending Syria and the Palestinian people at the international and local levels.
During his meeting with the family of the deceased and the leaders of the Marxist Communist Party of India, the ambassador also stressed the good relationship with the late leader, conveying to them the condolences of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad.
The headquarters of the Marxist Communist Party of India witnessed the flow of hundreds of party supporters and political leaders who came to offer condolences on the death of Yechury, expressing their sympathy for the loss of this leader who left a clear imprint in Indian and global politics.
