Syrians in Europe Celebrate 69th Evacuation Day Anniversary

FRANKFURT, (ST)_ Syrian communities abroad have vowed support for the motherland in a series of activities and events that reflect the deeply –rooted spirit of nationalism and belonging to the land from where messages of peace and love were emerged, despite the obscurantist ideology that terrorist groups seek to disseminate since more than four years.

The latest of these events is the celebration to be held by the Syrian community in Switzerland, in collaboration with several Syrian communities in Europe, in Frankfurt, Germany, on April 18th, marking the 69th anniversary of the evacuation of the last French colonialist from the Syrian land.

Member of the Syrian community in Switzerland and media coordinator of the event Assad Assad said in a statement to SANA that the Syrian expatriates have decided to celebrate Syria’s Evacuation Anniversary for this year in a wide participatory atmosphere that reflects the deep human links among Syrian citizens in Diaspora.

“As Syrians in the abroad, we loved to confirm to the whole world and to our brothers inside Syria that we do love our country and stand in solidarity with it, despite the vast distances separating us “, Assad said, adding “Our homeland is a sacred place which we had cleansed from the French occupation by the most precious lives and dear blood, an occasion which we celebrate today to remind the whole world that we render dear sacrifices for the sake of Syria. “

Although the Syrian community in Switzerland celebrates annually all national events and occasions, as Mr. Assad indicated, however its members decided to expand its national work through broader participation of the Syrian communities in Europe, adding that the “Committee in Solidarity and defense of Syria” in Germany adopted the idea, and coordinated with the Syrian communities in the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Slovakia as well as the Syrian – Swedish Peace Society in Sweden, Syrian youth club in Moscow, the Syrian Expatriates Association in Germany, the gathering of the Syrian expatriates in France, the Syrian expatriates Club in Poland and the Syrian Students Union in Romania.

Mr. Assad confirmed that invitations were extended for other Syrian communities in Europe to join this broad initiative, by representative delegations, pointing out that more than two- month preparations have begun amid intensive work and this vast celebration is expected to mark a new start for Syrian expatriates work.

“The celebration program includes several national and humanitarian activities, that reflect expatriates total loyalty to Syria’s political leadership and the heroism of the Syrian army, the symbol of pride and sovereignty against fierce terrorist attack Syria has been experiencing “, Assad explained.

The event also aims to highlight the ancient Syrian heritage, besides bringing in the largest number of expatriate delegates to get to know each other and hold dialogue sessions among Syrian communities in order to discuss expatriate situation, future strategies and ways to consolidate efforts and individual initiatives for consecration of collective works in addition to various artistic performances.
