Syrian youth group supports Damascus to be in UNESCO creative cities list

Syrian young people representing several Non-Governmental Organizations have taken part in an activity to support Damascus to be put in the UNESCO’s Creative Cities list.

The activity, which comes within Tourism Ministry’s program, has been organized by the Syrian ‘Steps Adventure Club’ in cooperation with the Syria Trust for Development and the ‘Basmet Shabab Souria’ Organization [Syrian Youth’s imprint organization].

It includes raising national flags on the bridge of President Assad and on the Damascus gates, painting the bridge and the sidewalks, removing advertising papers from the lampposts surrounding the bridge and holding a visual art exhibition entitled ‘ A photo from my country’ in the Damascus citadel.

The art exhibition will include photos of several heritage sites and nature in many provinces.

Head of the ‘Steps Adventure Club’ Samer al-Mousa said that the activity aims to prove that the Syrian young people are still fulfilling their role in preserving the homeland and resisting the terror war being waged on it.

“Road of Peace”

He unveiled that there are preparations to hold a new activity called ‘the road of peace’ where  15 member of the club will take part in a 55-day hiking trip from al-Badroseyeh area in Lattakia countryside to Salkhad citadel in the southern Sweida province  and then to Damascus citadel.

“The trip aims to convey the image of peace and security in Syria and to shed light on the beauty of the nature and the heritage sites,” al-Mousa added.

On her part, Sobheyeh Zien al-Abedin from the  ‘Basmet Shabab Souria’ declared that the activity proves the Syrian people’s steadfastness and shows the victory of will to live thanks to the victories of the Syrian Arab army and the martyrs, who scarified their lives to keep the Syrian flag flapping forever.

Ghaith Sandok from the Volunteers Club in the Syria Trust for Development said that the activity reflects youth’s role in launching initiatives and reactivating voluntary works to show the beautiful image of Syria.

Over the past five years, there have been dozens of initiatives launched by Syrian youth in various fields that aim to alleviate the negative repercussions of the war on the country and to enhance the Syrian people’s steadfastness.
