A number of Syrian writers have topped the longlist nominations for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, known as the Booker Prize, for the year 2025, including about 16 novels from 8 countries.
Among the nominated Syrian names are: Somar Shahada with the novel My Life Began, Sawsan Jamil Hassan with the novel The Heir of the Keys, Tayseer Khalaf with the novel The Andalusian Messiah, and Jean Dost with the novel The French Prisoner.
The award, which was launched in 2007 in Abu Dhabi, aims to honor and reward distinguished literary figures. It is an award limited to novels only, and the winning novel is awarded $50,000, in addition to $10,000 for each of the six novels on the shortlist.
