Syrian Women’s role and achievements highlighted in an event in Damascus marking International Women’s Day.

Strengthening the role of Syrian women and highlighting their many achievements and how to optimally invest their ideas at all levels towards achieving progress and development in society were the most prominent ideas focused on in the event held on on Sunday in Damascus the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The event was organized by ” Sanad Al-Shabab Development Foundation” and the Syrian Youth Council in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund .

The event, which was held in Reda Saeed Hall at the University of Damascus, focused on activating the participation of Syrian women in all fields, on their various responsibilities in raising awareness, on discovering their capabilities and investing them in the process of sustainable development and on their role as a partner in decision-making and assuming responsibilities in various fields.

The event reviewed  many success stories and national experiences accomplished by Syrian women who played a key role in providing support, making unique  steps in their careers and establishing projects that serve society.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria Adam Abdel Mawla stressed the importance of activating women’s participation at all levels, breaking the barriers that prevent them from investing in their full potential, and activating special policies and programs to promote gender equality and enable them to exercise their role and responsibilities in various aspects of life to achieve sustainable development.

Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Syria Muriel Mavico pointed to  the role of Syrian women in achieving development and progress in society and the importance of investing young women’s ideas in building and developing Syria, in addition to the need to activate their participation in protecting their rights and carrying out their mission, noting the successful models of Syrian women.

Director of the Media and Communication Department at the United Nations Population Fund, Kinda Qatrangi, highlighted that Syrian women had a role in preserving the family and society in the  light of the repercussions of the war, as they continue steadfast in the face of various challenges, providing necessary support and carrying out their responsibilities towards their society.

The Executive Director of the Sanad Youth Development Foundation, Yaman Al-Sabek, and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Syrian Youth Council, Eng. Ghaith Salman, pointed out that these events are a platform to shed light on the various success stories of young women and their experiences in achieving bold steps within their various works, and to discuss many important ideas that can be inspiring and motivating for the youth and society in the light of these circumstances that Syria is going through.

Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the “Here Is My Identity” Development Foundation Maria Saadeh explained that the difficult circumstances that the Syrian society faced during the years of war led to the emergence of youth energies who had an important impact, as women took the lead in various fields and they played a key role in bearing responsibility and confronting various challenges, including the repercussions of the war, and exercised their rights to carry out their  role to the fullest extent .
